Registration for Project Alpha - 04/11/2026
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation began collaboratively implementing Project Alpha in 1980. This collaborative project is designed to provide education, motivation and skill-building on issues of responsibility, relationships, teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases for teenage youth. Designed to provide current and accurate information about teen pregnancy prevention, Project Alpha consists of a series of workshops and informational sessions conducted by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity brothers.
Goals
The goals of Project Alpha are to:
1. Provoke conversation about teenage sex within the context of the visual and audible messages about sex communicated through various media.
2. Provide awareness about the issues of abuse within teenage relationships.
3. Provide awareness about options for safe sex ranging from abstinence to various forms of protections.
4. Provide awareness of sexually transmitted diseases.
5. Provide awareness of the costs associated with unplanned teenage pregnancy.
6. Provide awareness of the legal risks associated with underage sexual activity.
Workshop Approach
The workshop format is:
- Gender-specific discussions to surface perspectives on a variety of topics followed by a co-ed discussion to highlight the similarities and differences between the perceptions of the two genders.
- Interactive presentations about the topics covered led by subject matter experts.
- Pre-Session and Post-Session surveys on perceptions and personal decision about having sex to assess the changes in attitude affected by the workshop.
- Prepare the youth with tools and skills to succeed in professional settings
